Peer Exchange
UrbanShift Global Peer Exchange on Sustainable Energy Solutions
This peer-to-peer exchange will bring UrbanShift city Pune, India to Ghana to learn about clean cooking, micro grids and waste-to-energy models.
UrbanShift will host a peer-to-peer exchange on the topic of sustainable energy solutions with a focus on clean cooking, micro-grids and waste-to-energy solutions. The exchange will span best policy practices and supportive business models for facilitating a translation to cleaner cooking and renewable energy options.
UrbanShift will collaborate with the SESA (Smart Energy Solutions in Africa) Project on the peer exchange in Accra and Kumasi, Ghana from 10-13 October 2023. SESA is a collaborative project between the European Union and nine African countries (Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa and Tanzania ) that aims at providing energy access technologies and business models that are easily replicable and generate local opportunities for economic development and social cohesion in Africa.
In the peer exchange, the GEF-7 Indian city Pune will have the opportunity to learn about clean cooking and micro-grids that are installed in Ghana as a part of the SESA project. The Romanian city of Alba Iulia will also be a part of the peer exchange, sharing their experience on renewable energy and energy efficiency. The program will consist of a policy dialogue, a deep dive on the technologies in a workshop, and visit to the ‘Living Labs’ in Accra and Kumasi where these technologies are being implemented. A Living Lab in the SESA project is a site where technology is tested and validated with the goal to scale up and replicate energy access innovations. From this workshop, participating UrbanShift cities will gain technical and policy knowledge to implement similar programs in their home regions.
