Polluted air causes over 4.14 million premature deaths annually and affects countless more people, especially children, with illnesses like asthma and reduced quality of life. To combat toxic air pollution, protect public health, and prioritize people over vehicles, many cities are establishing Clean Air Zones. These zones are designed to manage the harmful effects of pollution and create healthier urban environments.
During this Peer-to-Peer Exchange hosted by C40 Cities in collaboration with the City of Madrid, the cities of Johannesburg and Marrakech will explore Madrid’s approach to developing effective policies, plans, and stakeholder engagement for equitable and inclusive Clean Air Zones. The exchange will include meetings, facilitated discussions, presentations, interactive exercises, and site visits to experience firsthand how Madrid has implemented its Clean Air Zones.
